A recent study showed that more households have pets than they do children. It makes logical sense then that people considering the pet-friendly features of a vehicle before making a big purchase. Just as parents check for safety features for their kids (child-locks, sufficient seat belts, windows that only go down halfway, etc.) they are looking for qualities to ensure maximum comfort for their pooches too. DogCars.com is a special site dedicated to reviewing cars from a dog owner’s perspective. The rating system is done in paws (of course) making four-paws the highest quality.

Faux Sure
Dying for the status a car sunroof will bring, but lacking the financial liquidity to have one professionally installed? Worry not friend, I have a good solution for you. The road to sunroof ownership is fraught with risks; leaks, rust and diminished security are only a few of the pitfalls possible when cutting a large hole in the roof of your ride. With the Decano Self Adhesive Sunroof the only risk you'll take is with the throngs of women that will doubtless be drawn to you as a result. Installation is easy, requiring only a clean car and a firm manly caress. Other products in development include imitation ABS brake lights for your dashboard, reassuring the ladies that they're in safe hands!Wednesday, July 25, 2007
Electric Car = Sticker Shock
The Telsa electro-roadster that goes from 0-60 in 4 seconds is due to hit the streets this fall, and there are 560 orders for the $98,000 electric sports car already pending. When can you get one you ask? Not right away. First you have to plunk down a $50,000 deposit, which gives you the right to buy your shiny new Tesla when they come out or you can pay a $30,000 deposit but you'll be in line behind the $50,000 depositors. And really the $98,000 is just the base price cause on top of that you'll want to add the $1200 navigation system, a carbon fiber hard top that matches the body color for $3200 and then there's that $500 mobile charging system add-on. With all these options, which sound more like necessities to me, it brings your grand total to $102,900. Turns out being green is easy, it's just paying for it that is hard!Tuesday, July 17, 2007
Mercedes Makes A Spectacle
Mercedes-Benz is trying something new, and they're jumping in with both feet. In collaboration with Allison SpA, they've come up with designs for 40 different eyeglass and sunglass frames. They unveiled the new endeavor at the recently concluded Fashion Week in Berlin, and I have to say that I think they've really gotten it right. The designs look hip and modern, but not so trendy that they're not versatile enough for everyday wear. Prices range from $233-$330 for the Mercedes-Benz eyeglass frames and $220-$357 for the sunglasses, which is a small price to pay for an eye-catching Mercedes.Tuesday, July 3, 2007
You Drive Me Crazy
Forget GPS—customers in ten major U.S. cities can now book professional chauffeurs for their rental cars. Car rental giant Avis has teamed up with WeDriveU, a private chauffeur service, to make this convenient new option available to Avis Preferred members. With Avis Chauffeur Drive, fully insured and certified drivers, who know the ins and outs of local thoroughfares and can navigate city streets with ease, pick up customers in their rental cars from baggage claim or passenger loading zones, chauffeur them around town, and can drop them off and return their rentals at the end of their trip. There's no need to wrestle with maps and directions, and customers can get work done while en route to their destination, making the time savings alone worth it for business travelers in a crunch. And offering customers the best of both worlds: a driver for the part of their trip they need one, and just the car for the rest of the journey.
The service is priced at $30 per hour, with a 3-hour minimum, in addition to standard rental car charges—an estimated 35% less than customers might spend on standard car and driver services. Customers can reserve chauffeurs up to 24 hours in advance in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Phoenix, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Key, Bored?
It's not fun carrying around a full keychain — not only does it make for a massive bulge in your jeans, it can also damage your car ignition if your chain is too weighed down. The Keyport Slide ($TBA) promises to alleviate this situation by offering you a simplified housing that holds all your keys. The universal key fob keeps your keys secure in a small, car remote-sized package. Just don't lose it.
